HP Officejet Series 7210

just bought a 7210 off Ebay for 99 pence (ex £14 delivery) within the description was "Carriage Jam" message so I knew it was faulty. 20 mins of Googling and a 5 minute clean has it up and running.

It did not involve loosening a single screw.

Okay, heres what I did...

- Switch on the printer.

- Open the print cartridge lid.

- Pull the plug from the back of the machine to avoid risk of electric shock.

- Using a light cleaning solution on a lint-free cloth, carefully VERY CAREFULLY, wipe the position strip (on both sides, front and back), then dry it with a dry lint-free cloth. Now move the cartridge carriage to the left and clean and dry the remaining half of the position strip. If you bend this position strip, your printer is knackered.

- Gently move the carriage back to the right.

- Holding down the OK and CANCEL buttons, plug in the power lead to the back of the printer and press the POWER button.

- Wait until the message DERIV CLEAR (Deriv is right - Im not sure about clear now) appears then release the OK and CANCEL buttons.

- The printer should thrash about a little, the carriage will move back and forth and then it should tell you the cartridges need changing and you follow the instructions, pressing OK or selecting the language options.

- It will print an alignment page and then you should be good to go.

I am a comms technician, I poke, I tweak. I dont give up.

Refillable Printer Cartridge Troubleshooting Guide Ink Flow Problems ARC Chip Not Recognised

There are several checks that you need to perform if you are experiencing performance issues with refillable cartridges.  Here are some of the most common problems and solutions.

Problem: No ink is coming out of the cartridge.
1. Make sure that you only have one rubber stopper / bung inserted in the cartridge.  Do not block the air filter hole as this will stop ink from leaving the cartridge.
2. Inside many refillable cartridges is a spring, that when pushed up opens a valve.  This is usually located at the bottom where the ink should come out when entering the printer nozzles. If you insert a syringe (without needle) and push it up, this will open the value and you will be able to suck a small amount of ink into the syringe.  This will create a siphoning motion and hopefully sustain a proper flow of ink.  You then remove the syringe while maintaining pressure, not allowing any ink to go back into the cartridge. Replace the cartridge and run a head cleaning cycle or two.
3. If after performing the above troubleshooting techniques ink is still not transferring on to the paper, then you may have a blocked nozzle or print head.  You may need to use cleaning fluid to clear blockages.  We recommend you purchase special head cleaning cartridges.  We stock these for various printer makes and models including for Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP at.. https://www.printercartridges.net/printercartridgesstore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=222  You could also use the refillable cartridges you already have by filling them with cleaning solution.  Please refer to our cleaning cartridges instructions for more details.
4. If you cannot clear the blockage then you will need to buy a new printhead (for certain Canon and HP printers), but this could prove more expensive than buying a new printer! You will need to decide whether you like the printer enough to keep it and that it offers superior quality and cheaper runing costs to newer models.  For Epson and Brothers printers that contain a fixed printhead you may be forced to replace the printer!  This is very common practice in these modern times of recycling!

Problem: One or more of the cartridges are not recognised by the printer. (Replace Cartridge Error / Cartridge needs replacing / Wrong black or colour installed etc.)
1. For models that contain a smart-chip it is necessary to have the correct version installed.  Make sure that you have the correct cartridges for your printer.  Please see our full range at.. https://www.printercartridges.net/printercartridgesstore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=116
2. If one cartridge is not recognised then try removing it and carefully wiping the chip.  Then re-install and try again.
3.  For Canon and Epson models, try taking out all of the refill cartridges and unplug the printer at the wall socket.  After one hour has passed plug it back in and re-install all of the refillable cartridges to see if this has solved the problem.
4.  For Brother printers unplug the printer at the wall for one hour before trying again.  This should reset the memory.  Brother cartridges do not contain a chip so cartridge information is estimated by the machine.
5. Some printers do not like a mixture of special refillable cartridges with ARC auto reset chips and ordinary OEM or compatible microchips.  You will need to install the complete set of reusable ink tanks for them to be acknowledged.
6. The latest type of reusable cartridges for use with Epson printers (Stylus Color S22 SX125 SX130 SX225W SX235W SX245W SX420W SX425W SX525 SX525W etc.) features a small battery.  If the cartridge does not reset automatically you may need to perform a manual reset.  This can be performed by touching the two copper pins on the chip at the same time with a metal piece.  If your version does not contain these pins then you will need to remove the battery to reset it.

Hi Friends!

I apologize again for not continuing with BSOD chapter. I know, some of you would be feeling that this punk is overflowing with ideas & not completing the earlier ones. But, as an adage goes, Dont blame the person, blame the situation. Well I guess, it all fits in here well.

In my quest to help people, when I encounter some one stuck up with something, I feel( and I hope youl agree) that his priority increase manifold!

So in this post, I am going to talk on how to set up environment privileges in XP machine(same steps follows for Win7).

So lets get started.

Topic: Set environment variable in Win XP.

Let us first understand what Environment variables mean:

Many Operating Systems use environment variables to pass configuration information to applications. They are used as key/value pair where both the key and the value are strings.

Step 1: Right click My Computer -> Properties

      
Step 2: Click on Advanced tab. There you will find Environment Variables button at the bottom of the page.

                                             

Step 3: You will see a screen as the one below.

                             
Now to create a new environment variable, click on New(enclosed in rectangle)

Step 4: Now give the key/ value pair you like to make as environment variables.

           
The Path environment variable

The path variable to a file basically represents its location on the file system. It tell the OS, where to find that file. Typically, a group of directories which are repeatedly used, are found. To see, what the path variables contains, go to cmd -> echo %PATH% (dont worry about the case, they are not case-sensitive).

         

As you can see, there are multiple values, each separated by ;.

In the same way, you can double click on the variable on the variable in step 3.

So, I guess my java friends wont find issues in this section of the program.

Cleaning the device

The section contains information about cleaning the device exterior and scanner.
To clean the exterior
Use a soft, damp, lint-free cloth to wipe dust, smudges, and stains off of the exterior of the device.
To clean the scanner glass
Dirty glass, from fingerprints, smudges, hair, and so on, slows down performance and affects the accuracy of special features such as fit-to-page and copy.
If streaks or other defects appear only on copies produced using the automatic document feeder (ADF), clean the scanner strip (step 3). It is not necessary to clean the scanner glass.
Turn off the device, unplug the power cord from the electrical socket, and raise the lid.
Clean the glass by using a soft cloth or sponge that has been moistened with nonabrasive glass cleaner.

ACAUTION

Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, or carbon tetrachloride on any part of the device; these can damage the device. Do not place liquids directly on the glass. They might seep under it and damage the device.

Clean the scanner strip by using a soft cloth or sponge that has been moistened with nonabrasive glass cleaner.



To prevent spotting, dry the glass by using a chamois or cellulose sponge.
To clean the lid backing
Minor debris can accumulate on the white document lid backing that is located under the flatbed scanner cover.
Turn off the device, unplug the power cord from the electrical socket, and raise the lid.
2 Clean the white document lid backing by using a soft cloth or sponge that has been moistened with a mild soap and warm water. Also, clean the scanner strip next to the ADF scanner glass.

Wash the backing gently to loosen debris; do not scrub the backing. 4 Dry the backing by using a chamois or soft cloth.
/ CAUTION Do not use paper-based wipes because they might scratch the backing.
If this does not clean the backing well enough, repeat the previous steps and use isopropyl alcohol to dampen the cloth or sponge, and then wipe the backing thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any residual alcohol.

If you must print sharp text and graphics as well as photos, try the similarly priced Epson Stylus C60 instead.Although HP has supposedly revamped its inkjet line, we found little corroborating evidence in terms of appearance; the HP 3820 resembles previous Deskjet incarnations. Its compact, rectangular shape looks like a big box of facial tissue, and its paper trays are flimsier versions of the standard HP configuration: a 100-sheet input tray on the bottom and a 50-sheet output guide on top. The retractable input tray, while perfectly usable, is made of cheaper-looking plastic than that of costlier printers, and the output guide, which extends only halfway out over the input tray and is more of a shelf than a tray, looks really low-budget. The printer is both Mac and PC compatible and connects via the USB or parallel ports (cable not included).

4 Pull the orange tab on the left side of the toner cartridge. Remove the plastic piece at the bottom of the toner cartridge.
5 Align the arrow on the cartridge with the arrow on the printer. Carefully place the print cartridge into place, then the rock down until it clicks into place. Under the plastic cover on the new print cartridge and close the printer cover.

How to Refill an HP 940C Ink Cartridge,
Hewlett-Packard 940C printer is a color inkjet printer that is compatible with Windows-based PCs and Macintosh. The 940C uses the HP No. 15 black ink cartridge and HP No. 78 ink cartridge tri-color. The color cartridge has three separate ink chambers for cyan, magenta and yellow. When ink is low on each cartridge, you can fill as a more cost effective to replace the cartridge.

Instructions
things you need:
Short needles and syringes with blunt
Black, cyan, magenta and yellow ink-jet filling
Ink Cartridge 1.16 inch screw
Paper towels
Push pin

1 Place the cartridges on a flat surface with some paper towels under them to collect spilled ink.
2 Place the black cartridge No. 15 for the bottom is facing up. Remove the plastic film covering the ball bearing. Push the ball bearing with small allen wrench until there is sufficient space to allow the syringe needle to enter.
3 Fill a syringe with 30 ml of black ink refill. Place a short blunt needle. Insert the needle into the fill hole that was covered earlier by the ball bearing.
4 Slowly inject ink into the cartridge.
5 Squeeze sides of cartridge to create a vacuum. Screw the 1/16th inch set in place in the hole until flush with the bottom of the cartridge. Loosen the sides of the cartridge.
6 Place the No. 78 color cartridge to the top of the cartridge up and the "Hewlett-Packard" logo side is up.
7 Click on the three plastic plugs into the top of the cartridge with a pin to pull off.
8 Fill a syringe with 8 ml of yellow ink. Insert the needle into the hole on the left side. Inject 3 ml of ink on the bottom of the ink chamber. Raise the needle to inject a bit the other 5 ml in the middle of the ink chamber.
9 Fill a syringe with 8 ml of magenta ink. Insert the needle into the center hole. The ink is injected in the same way the yellow ink is injected.
10 Fill a syringe with 8 ml of cyan. Insert the needle into the hole on the right side. The ink is injected in the same manner as the other two colors.
11 Tighten the two rounds over paper towels for five minutes to catch any leaking ink. Do not allow the printhead to touch the paper towel or directly to base the ink cartridges.
12 Replace the black and color cartridges in the HP 940C printer. Wait at least eight hours before printing the ink is able to saturate the sponge inside the cartridge.
